A heartbreaking incident occurred in Southeast D.C. as a 3-year-old girl tragically lost her life to gun violence on Friday night. D.C. police responded to reports of the shooting in the vicinity of the 2200-2400 block of Harford Street Southeast around 9 p.m.
The young girl, who was in a vehicle at the time, was rushed to a nearby firehouse by a family member, where officers found her unconscious and not breathing. Despite efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries after being airlifted to a hospital.
Seventh District Commander LaShay Makal urged the community to come forward with any information regarding the incident, emphasizing the urgent need for cooperation.
While police do not have a suspect at the moment and believe the girl was not the intended target, evidence suggests an exchange of gunfire occurred, as shell casings were found at the scene.
Makal condemned the tragedy, emphasizing its unacceptable nature.
